Burgundy Lion

Burgundy Lion – Pub style food with a pint on the side

The 411

burgundy-lion-exterior-smallOver the last year and a bit there have been more and more places serving up English breakfasts. If you have ever had one then you know that it’s basically a hearty meal which often tends to have lots of meat and includes items like blood pudding, potatoes, and anything that would pass as a morning pub food.

l’assommoir

L’assommoir – A late night legend takes on brunch.

The 411

lassommoir-exterior-smallBernard street is like my first love when it comes to brunch; it’s where some of my earliest reviews come from and it’s a street that offers a high concentration of restaurants in only a couple blocks. Many of these restaurants have been doing brunch for years and as of recently other have begun to offer brunch menus to their offerings. L’assomoir has been putting out great and fun meals for years and they are one of my favourite dinner places on Bernard. When my friend decided to do his birthday brunch here, I was excited.

La Brigade Volante

La Brigade Volante – Organic, healthy, and tasty.

NO LONGER SERVES BRUNCH

The 411

brigade-volante-exterior-smallHealthy; organic; biological; these are words you generally would not associate with brunch, but considering that the first meal of the day may be your last if you keep eating those giant mounds of bacon, then maybe looking a little closer at what you eat may be a good idea. This is why La Brigade Volante is an interesting choice. They are a catering company who, after demand from locals, opened up service to the public and have an interesting take on brunch. Not only is it healthy, it’s tasty too. With a nutritionist on staff all the meals are made with your health in mind. They use fresh fruit, lean cuts of meat and all products are biological and deal with eco-responsible suppliers and support local farmers. They also use recycled materials in their packaging and exceed the city of Montreal’s recycling quota.

Otto

Ristorante Otto – Fancy Brunch on McGill Street

The 411

otto-exterior-smallOld Montreal has its fair share of fancier brunch places; McGill street alone is home to a good concentration of them and one that I have been curious about for some time is Otto. Situated inside the W hotel this restaurant serves up a weekday early morning breakfast starting at 7 am and going until 11:30 am, as well as a longer weekend schedule of 7 am to 2pm. I have been to Otto for dinner and enjoyed it. Otto is a fancy restaurant; the décor is exquisite; the outside terrace is vey nice and covered by umbrellas. With this rather positive dinner experience I wondered how it would convert to brunch.
