Eggsquis

A Sherbrooke concept in Laval

The 411

To begin with I should state that Eggsquis is a chain and although I have a no chain rule, I have revised it and will review it fairly. The location that will be reviewed is the one in Laval on 1450 , Blvd. Daniel Johnson. Although it is possible that not all of the 32 locations across Quebec are the same I will only be using this location for review purposes (that and I don’t feel like driving across the province to check them all out).

At 1st glance

The moment you pull into its ample parking lot, you quickly spot Eggsquis among the other shops in the little strip mall. We went at around 1:00 PM and there was a small lineup but it moved quite quickly. The decor is simple, nothing too crazy, and the capacity is quite fair; turn around was pretty good with people coming and going often. I was really concerned about the lineup but in less than 5 minutes we were seated (I should note that we were not a big group and if we were that may have taken a bit longer).

Food

Right off the bat they made me happy by putting the coffee container on the table; this makes life so much easier so you don’t have to chase the staff for refills. I cannot stress enough on how this is an amazing idea and more places should follow suite. The menu at Eggsquis is quite extensive and you do have a lot of options to choose from. There are also some other choices not on the menu like fruit cups ($1.95) and plates ($4.95). Omelets are well priced from $5.95 up to $8.45. The Fermier omellete ($8.95) was tasty, of a good size and came with potatoes, fruit and a side of toast. Waffles are at a good price ranging from $6.95 to $9.95. There are tons of crepe options, all at around $9.95. Mine came with whipped cream and chocolate; the taste was good and it was filling, although I would of liked more choice of fruit. There are some fruit drinks ($3.55) the menu lists 4 choices of fruit drinks but I was able to get banana and strawberry which wasn’t listed the taste was good. One really nice item is that they let you take home a doggy bag if you don’t finish your plate

Service

The service is excellent and the staff did a good job of making seating quick and efficient. Our waitress checked up on us multiple times and the bill came quickly. I particularly like how she was able to provide info for items not on the menu.

Vegetarian

There are some vegetarian options such as the omelets and fruit plates. The fruit plates are off the menu and you need to ask for them. There is as well a health section that’s fairly priced. The fact that the menu is large allows for some good vegetarian options and most plates don’t come with meat. Although if you are vegan the only suitable thing I saw on the menu is the fruit cup, plate and toast/bagel.

Wrap up

Although I don’t like chains this one I enjoyed; the prices are fair, they leave the coffee pot on the table, parking is abundant and they let you take home the leftovers. On the negative side they could use more fruit in their plates as the fruit options are limited.
